It’s where the locals go and boy, is it a good spot. Big Muddy Coffee Co. offers breakfast Tuesday-Friday from 6:30-10 a.m. and on Saturday from 7:30-11 a.m. From lattes and cappuccinos to sausage balls and scones, the Big Muddy crew has just what you need to start your day off right. The media is keeping their eye on DeSoto County and all of the good stuff we have going on. Below are a few stories recently shared about our area.

  • The development plan for Silo Square received alderman approval as reported by Daily Memphian. Included in the plan was the newly announced education facility Silo Academy, which will open next summer. 
  • Winner winner, chicken dinner. Professional eater Naader Reda recently completed food challenges at Southaven’s 10th Inning and Italia Pizza Cafe, and Hernando’s The Dip. The DeSoto Times-Tribune reported the food adventure will be featured in an upcoming episode on Reda’s YouTube channel Freak Eating.
  • The city of Hernando received a $5,000 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission according to DeSoto News. The funds will enhance their annual Hernando Dickens of a Christmas holiday event, which provides a glimpse into the city's history and aims to preserve its cultural heritage through a fun-filled experience.
  • ABC 24 shared the live music lineup for the upcoming Mid-South Fair. More than 20 acts and DJs will perform at the event that runs through Oct. 2 at Landers Center in Southaven.

Upcoming events

Have a frightfully good time in Hernando at Cedar Hill’s Haunted Farm with the Trail of Terror, Zombie Apocalypse and more. Scares happen every Friday and Saturday in October.

 


Be the first to see the new tree offerings at Brussel’s Bonsai in Olive Branch during its Fall Open House on Saturday, Oct. 8.

 

 

Also on Oct. 8, Horn Lake hosts its 4th Annual Food Truck Festival featuring live music, arts and crafts vendors, a beer garden, kids play zone and more.
 

 

Get your kiddos’ costumes ready and trick-or-treat early at Hernando’s Halloween Off the Square on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 3-5 p.m.
