Small Business Spotlight: Mrs. Hippie Eats

mrs-hippie-eats.jpgMemphis native Chef Heather Bugg-Ries is the founder and owner of Mrs. Hippie Eats. The mom of triplets is no stranger to the culinary arts. She started her cooking journey in 1999 before venturing to Houston, Texas, where she studied at the French Culinary Institute to become a pastry chef. Since then, she has accumulated decades of experience working across the country from New York City to North Carolina and up to Detroit before returning to her roots here in the Mid-South. Since opening just two years ago, Mrs. Hippie Eats has already been recognized for the delicious, grab-and-go dishes it produces. In fact, it was recently named the spot for the Best Chicken Salad and Best Pimento Cheese as part of DeSoto Times Tribune’s Best of DeSoto Awards. Currently located in Hernando off Commerce Street, Mrs. Hippie Eats will be relocating in late 2023 or early 2024 to a spot just around the corner on McIngvale Road. For more information on daily offerings, follow the restaurant on Facebook or Instagram.

SMALL BUSINESS NOMINATION

Do you know DeSoto?

John Grisham Jr., is a famed novelist, lawyer, former member of the Mississippi House of Representatives and… a Southaven High School graduate? Yep, that’s right! And, did you know that while working at the DeSoto County Courthouse in 1984, Grisham witnessed a trial that inspired his first novel? Many pages of “A Time to Kill” were penned right outside the courtroom between sessions. Grisham then went on to write “The Firm.” Published in 1991, “The Firm” spent 47 weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers list and was eventually translated into 29 languages!
