Guest blog post: A Day in DeSoto County

27 Mar / 2024

Hi there! Kim Thomas here. I’m a lifestyle blogger and photographer based in Memphis, Tennessee. Earlier this month, I teamed up with DeSoto County Tourism to show followers three gems found just south of Memphis in DeSoto County, Mississippi. Let’s recap, shall we?

IMG_0237.jpgI took my niece Kyla along for the quick ride down to Southaven, and we did a little exploring. First, we stopped by Coffee Central, and we immediately knew it was our vibe. I ordered Avocado Toast with cream cheese and an Iced Honeycomb Latte that included white chocolate, honey and lavender. Turned out to be a very delicious combo! Kyla went for the Classic Breakfast “Sammy” with bacon, egg and cheese, and paired it with an Iced Brown Sugar Latte. We gave all four items a 10/10! We visited the Southaven location, but there’s a second Coffee Central in Hernando, if that’s more convenient for you. Both are open Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

After our morning fuel, we headed down the road to Silo Square. If you haven’t been yet, it’s a must. The development, which is modeled after a traditional town square, boasts boutiques, dining options, salons, lifestyle stores and more. There’s also a self-service wine bar with 24 taps called Sippin’ Silo opening soon. (!!!)

IMG_0261.jpgOur Silo Square destination of choice was Trouble Boutique. It’s owned by a super sweet mother-daughter duo we had the pleasure of meeting. We perused the racks and swooned over pieces you’re sure to love too. If you’re looking for spring or summer dresses, tops or shoes, Trouble is your place. It’s open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. When chatting with mom Kristi and daughter Cassidy, we learned they get new arrivals every Thursday. You’re welcome! :)

IMG_0310.jpgOur final stop of the day was The Açaí Bar in Southaven for a quick smoothie and açaí bowl. I LOVE having healthy options available when I’m on the go and these two items were delicious. If you’ve never been to The Açaí Bar, you can order from its set menu or build your own bowl or smoothie. There are tons of accompaniments to choose from –  think fresh fruit, granola, nuts, coconut, honey and more. While we found our smoothie and bowl to be filling, if you’re looking for something a little more substantial, go for a protein shake or waffles. The Açaí Bar is open Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

DeSoto County is truly just a hop over the state line, and it's a fun area to explore close to home. There's been so much growth happening over the years, especially on Getwell Road. Every time I visit, there are new restaurants, shops and other small businesses to check out.

I asked my followers for their favorite DeSoto County spots, too. Everyone loves Silo Square it seems!

Here are a few more great shopping and dining options around DeSoto County.
