Visit the Mississippi Blues Trail
Memphis Minnie Marker.jpgAfter a good meal, learn about legendary musicians as you drive along the Mississippi Blues Trail. To honor the talented musicians who spent significant time in the Magnolia State, the Mississippi Blues Commission created the trail in 2006. It features a sprawling collection of markers that feature a synopsis of the musicians’ contributions to the blues. A portion of it runs right through DeSoto County and makes for an interesting history lesson for all. One of the most notable markers in the area is located in Walls. It honors Blues Hall of Fame inductee Lizzie “Kid” Douglas, also known as Memphis Minnie. She and her husband Joe McCoy are known for popular songs, such as “When the Levee Breaks.” Additional markers can be found in Hernando, Horn Lake and Nesbit.
