03 July / 2023
July is National Picnic Month! It’s time to gather your blankets, baskets and favorite to-go foods and head out to have some fun in the sun in DeSoto County, Mississippi. Between views of the Mighty Mississippi, active sports communities and greenery for miles – there are plenty of spots for a picnic here at the top of the ‘Sip.
If you’re looking for a light lunch followed by some volleying on the tennis courts, Latimer Lakes Park in Horn Lake is a great option. With 120 acres of sprawling green fields for sports and relaxation, there is plenty of room to lay your blanket down and relax in the summer sun.
There’s nothing quite as delicious (and filling) as good ol’ Mississippi cuisine. Grab a bite in Old Towne before heading to Olive Branch City Park! There, you can enjoy your meal and a walk along one of the park’s trails.
Picnic with pride by honoring all United States veterans who serve at DeSoto County Veterans Park. This park is home to 14 bronze plaques sharing information about wars or conflicts and flags representing military branches positioned around a gorgeous lake in Southaven. Once you’re finished with lunch, you can stroll the paved walking trail to view each monument at your leisure.
Hernando DeSoto River Park in Walls is sure to stun you with its views, proximity to wildlife and peaceful atmosphere. Fire up the grill and picnic along the banks of the Mississippi River at DeSoto County’s only public access to the waterway.
Looking for fun for the whole family to enjoy? Grab the kiddos and head to Conger Park in Hernando for a picnic under the gazebo. After that, the children can enjoy the park’s custom wooden playground.
Are you ready to enjoy the great outdoors? Head to the top of the ‘Sip for a new kind of picnic experience!
