Just minutes from Memphis, Walls, Mississippi, is a DeSoto County community rich in history and culture. Sometimes called the “Doorway to the Delta,” it sits on the shores of the mighty Mississippi River.
Walls offers a wealth of outdoor activities. You can bike along the Great River Road Bike Trail, catch gorgeous views at the Delta Bluffs Scenic Byway, fish at Hernando DeSoto River Park or learn a little history at the Edgefield Mounds found on the Mississippi Mound Trail. The grounds feature three conical mounds that are believed to have been built by Native Americans between 1200-1600. You can also learn some musical history along the Mississippi Blues Trail that runs through Walls. Memphis Minnie, a Blues Hall of Fame inductee, was buried and has a marker here that honors her impressive career.
All that exploring can cause you to build up an appetite. Try local favorite Old School Hot Wings off Highway 61 and be sure to check out other favorites throughout DeSoto County.
Clearly, there is already a lot to love about Walls, and Mayor Keidron Henderson believes the town is only going to get better.
“Having grown up in this community, I’m intimately aware of the amazing people who call this place home. I’m also aware of the challenges, opportunities and resources needed to improve the quality of life here. During my administration, we are working to improve public service offerings, stimulate economic and residential growth, and to revitalize youth recreation for this place I affectionately call the ‘Precious Town of Walls.’”
Are you ready to walk through the “Doorway to the Delta”? Wonderful adventure awaits in Walls.
