6 vendors to visit at the Hernando Farmers Market
08 May / 2024
‘Tis the season for farmers markets, and lucky for us, there are several for you to visit here in DeSoto County, Mississippi. The Hernando Farmers Market is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April through October. Attendees can purchase fresh produce, baked goods and homemade crafts; participate in free yoga classes, enjoy live music and more. Southern Living even gave Hernando’s market a nod in this article highlighting a dozen farmers markets in the South to visit. Pretty cool, huh? Below we share just a few of the wonderful vendors you’ll find during your visit.
Popio’s Pickled Products
If you’ve been on the search for the perfect pickle with a crunch, look no further than Popio’s Pickled Products. This local small business is owned and operated by Kelley Saldo and offers a variety of pickled goods. She even has pickled garlic, which is said to be great to include on sandwiches and in a variety of recipes. She also features an assortment of fruit-pepper jellies and fresh, homemade salsa.
Las Delicias
This stand offers oh-so-flavorful salsa and guacamole, and homemade chips from the family owned restaurant across the stateline in Memphis under the same name. Although the menu may be concise, the flavors you’ll taste in every bite are anything but.
Delta Ridge Sauces & Seasonings
Ready to step up your barbecue game? Check out Delta Ridge Sauces and Seasonings’ offerings. This ‘cue crew sells barbecue sauces in five flavor profiles, including Smoked Hickory Mustard, various seasonings, as well as marinades great for taking chicken, shrimp and vegetables to the next level.
Cottonville Farm
This small family owned farm showcases fresh vegetables grown on their land in nearby Tate County. The most common vegetables available are cucumbers, tomatoes, squash and zucchini. If you're looking to stock up on produce at a more-than-fair price, stop by Cottonville Farm’s stand.
Davis Meat Co.
A local butcher with a large presence, its huge branded truck is hard to miss (and thank goodness for that!) Davis Meat Co. is stocked with grade-A meats like ground beef, steak and sausage. If you’re interested in placing a big order for a barbecue competition or family cookout, you can secure your proteins in advance for pick up at the farmers market.
J&B Candle Co.
Who doesn’t love a great smelling home? J&B Candle Co. offers a variety of scents in its wooden wick candle jars. Our favorites are Mississippi Magnolia and Volcanoes, so be sure to give those a whiff. Aside from candles, you can also find goat milk soap, avocado body butter and sugar scrubs here.
We could go on, y’all! There are dozens and dozens of wonderful vendors lining the Hernando Town Square every Saturday April through October. Load up the family and go have some fun while supporting local growers and makers at the Hernando Farmers Market.
