The event will recreate an atmosphere of Christmas in Hernando during the Victorian Era. On Saturday, November 9 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm on the Town Square, visitors can enjoy our first Christmas farmer market with holiday wares, hot cocoa and cider, Dickens characters will be walking and singing in the local businesses and historic downtown to bring joy to the season. The DeSoto County Museum will have carriage rides with a tour guide also dressed in period clothing who will talk about the Victorian period in Hernando. Participate in a class and take home a handmade Christmas mailbox swag with the help of the Hernando Civic Garden Club as a fundraiser for their organization, North West Community College and DeSoto County Career Tech West will delight visitors with Christmas food demonstrations, children will meet Santa Clause in the courthouse, make a Christmas ornament and get a free children’s book from Excel By 5. We can’t forget about our furry loved ones! The Hernando Animal Shelter will have a special Santa for family pets to get their Christmas photo. Our local businesses will be decked out to the hilt in Christmas décor, and oh yes, they will have lots of fabulous specials. Some will have hor’derves for shoppers to enjoy while they prepare for the holiday season.
